The Huskers are back "at it" and everyone is smiles...at least right now. A new coach has brought optimism and increased expectations for the team. "They can't be any worse than they were last year!" some have opined.
Husker fans love their team. They love to reminisce about "the good old days" when the Huskers were in their glory as national champs and were a perennial powerhouse. They long to return to those days and to enjoy being the best.
As Christians there is always something to celebrate-even on bad days. We celebrate a victory that was realized nearly two milleniums ago-the greatest victory ever which declares us all to be winners. For us, Jesus' triumph over sin and death is not just about glory days in the past. It's about the glory days yet to come!
Let's face it. We don't always live like winners. We haven't always done our best and "left everything out on the field." Whether it's been in the office or in the living room or driving to work or school-we haven't always performed up to expectations. We've been "underachievers" when it comes to doing it all "for the glory of God". We've fallen far short of God's glory and we deserve to hang our heads in shame forever in the ultimate loser hang out called hell. Things couldn't be any worse!
But that's where our champion comes into play. He graced us with his presence by entering our field of play. He couldn't have performed any better-even under tremendous pressure. What a victory he recorded for us as we see His win recorded for us in the pages of God's holy Word. Things didn't look too good for our hero on Friday, but what a comeback on Sunday-when it all counted! We'd love to have you join us to celebrate His victory and to hear about the glory days yet to come!!!
